Solebury Police Continue Elite Accreditation

The Solebury Township Police Department has earned its second re-accreditation from the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission. Of the 1,117 law enforcement agencies in the state, only 134 are currently accredited under the program.

To earn accreditation, a department must show that its policies meet or exceed over 100 standards touching on every area of law enforcement best practices. Outside assessors conduct an on-site review to evaluate compliance, which is presented to the Accreditation Commission for final determination.

Accreditation is an ongoing process — in addition to meeting the policy criteria, departments must also develop a self-assessment process to ensure compliance on a day-to-day basis. Ongoing accreditation requires submitting annual reports to the Commission, and undertaking a full re-accreditation every three years.

Solebury Township Police first earned accreditation in 2015 and have maintained ongoing and active status since. This year's re-accreditation process was coordinated by Sgt. Kevin Edwards. The Township will be up for its next re-accreditation in September 2024.

The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency cites the accreditation program as the leading effort to strengthen the professionalism of law enforcement in the Commonwealth. They praise the program as affordable, Pennsylvania-specific, and user-friendly.
