Draining Swimming Pools

Pool water must be discharged in a manner that prevents impacts to neighboring properties and local waterways. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) recommends the following:

• Dechlorinate
  Stop adding chlorine at least two weeks prior to draining.
• Discharge on Property
  Direct water onto your property where it can infiltrate. Do not discharge toward septic systems or adjacent properties.
• No Storm Sewer Discharge
  Do not discharge pool water into storm drains or storm sewers.
