At the first Housing Forum, we ask you to help us envision, analyze and discuss…

• What is Attainable Housing?
• Who would be served by Attainable Housing?
  (essential workers, starter families, farmer workers, recent college graduates, senior citizens, empty nesters)
• What does Attainable Housing look like?
• What would be a reasonable outcome by 2030 and 2040?
• Where might Attainable Housing be located?

The first Housing Forum will be an informal gathering which will include a discussion with community members that would be served by attainable housing and a panel discussion with members of the attainable housing industry. The discussions will be followed by your insights and comments, and a brief discussion of future Housing Forum topics.

At its Feb. 3 meeting, the Solebury Board of Supervisors adopted a policy for handling claims by Township residents for damages to mailboxes caused by direct strikes from Township vehicles during the performance of snow plowing operations.

The Solebury Public Works Department often works under difficult weather conditions, including the plowing of snow, and takes care to avoid damage to residents' mailboxes located in the public road rights-of-way or Homeowners Association.

Experience shows that mailboxes are rarely, but sometimes, hit by plows. In addition, damage may be caused by the force of the snow or plow wash hitting the mailbox during plowing operations.

While a resident may not have a choice to locate a mailbox outside the road right-of-way due to USPS requirements, the resident can take steps to minimize exposure to loss and damage.

Accordingly, the purpose of this policy is to address mailbox damage resulting from Solebury Public Works Department snow plowing operations and claims for reimbursement by residents.

Solebury Township updates its Comprehensive Plan every ten years in accordance with the Pennsylvania Municipal Planning Code. The plan outlines our long-range priorities for growth, land use, community amenities, sustainability and preservation. Our plan is called Solebury 2035.

Solebury 2035 will present practical, actionable recommendations focused on key areas identified by the Comprehensive Plan Committee and from feedback from the community-wide survey conducted in 2024.

To gather input on important issues, the Comprehensive Plan Committee will hold a series of Issue Forums. These sessions will bring together Township committees, outside advisors, the Bucks County Planning Commission, subject matter experts, and the public to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing our community.

These forums are designed to collect ideas and perspectives to go into the plan - not to resolve issues during the meeting.

Upcoming sessions will be held at 7:15 p.m. at the Solebury Township Building on these dates in 2025:

Sept. 17 - Future of the Route 202 Corridor
Oct. 15 - Managing Our Water Resources

All meetings are open to the public and will also be available via Zoom. We invite everyone who is interested in helping shape the future of Solebury Township to join us.

The pickleball courts at Laurel Park have re-opened for play! Repairs and court resurfacing have been completed and they look fantastic. The hours of operation are posted at the entrance to each court and can also be found here. Thank you for your patience while this work was being completed.

Solebury Township has formally acquired the 166-acre former New Hope Crushed Stone & Lime Co. quarry located at 6970 Phillips Mill Road. This significant property acquisition secures one of the largest undeveloped tracts in the Township, including a pristine 60-acre lake and over 3,000 linear feet of stream corridor along the Primrose Creek.

Originally appraised at $3.66 million, the property was secured through a revised agreement of sale approved in May for $3.25 million. However, through a strategic partnership with Solebury School, the Township successfully negotiated a non-exclusive easement agreement that allows the school to access a portion of the property and water features for educational and recreational purposes. In return, the school contributed toward the acquisition, reducing the Township's net cost to $1.6 million.

"This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity," said Board Chair Mark Baum Baicker. "Through creativity, persistence, and collaboration, we were able to reduce the financial impact on taxpayers while preserving an extraordinary environmental and community asset."

The site has much potential. It contains a warehouse-type structure suitable for repurposing as a Public Works storage facility, eliminating the need to construct a new building previously budgeted at $350,000. Additional buildings on site may serve as future office space or housing. The Township has also received inquiries from local fire and emergency service providers interested in using the lake for firefighting access and water rescue training.

Solebury Township took ownership of the property on May 22 and has already submitted a grant application to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) for up to $1.2 million. The Township also intends to apply for additional grant funding in the upcoming DCNR grant round and the Highlands Conservation Act program, further reducing taxpayer contributions.

"This property will become a cornerstone of our park system for generations to come," added Supervisor Kevin Morrissey, who has championed this acquisition for over 15 years. "Its recreational, environmental, and public safety benefits make this an outstanding investment in Solebury's future."

The Board of Supervisors has begun the process of securing and assessing the property for future recreational use. A long-term master plan will be developed with community input and will depend on a combination of grant funding and outside resources. Currently there is no public access to the property. Exact details of usage by Solebury School is to be determined.

Over the next few years the Township will start by finalizing remaining remediation measures then move to site evaluation and data gathering before preparing to commence a master planning process.

The Township would like to again remind the public that this property is the site of a formal industrial use and until it is secured and developed it could pose a hazard to trespassers and emergency responders.
