Land Preservation: How Do I Preserve My Property?

How Do I Preserve My Property?

“The goal of the township Land Preservation Program is to preserve … agricultural land and critical areas such as streams and steep slopes…for environmental improvement and stabilization of the township. (One of the effects) is that the school board will not see a rapidly increasing number of students.  The wholesale development of Solebury is not in the cards because of the Land Preservation Program, and therefore taxes, especially school taxes, will be abated and won’t be skyrocketing as they have been.” (Malcolm Crooks; excerpt from The Solebury Township Historical Society)

Solebury’s “neighbor working with neighbor” is a unique land preservation program. Appointed volunteers on the Land Preservation Committee are charged by the Supervisors to work with their neighbors to preserve Solebury’s land heritage, primarily through the placement of conservation easements.

The first step is to call Jean Weiss, the Land Preservation Administrator at 215-297-5656. Then, a committee member will be assigned to the land owner to serve as an advocate and liaison to the township.  An initial meeting will be scheduled with the landowner at the property to provide an overview of the program goals and procedures, and to discuss the landowner’s goals and needs.
