US and PA Emergency Managers Ask You to Consider Flood Insurance

Solebury's connection to the Delaware River runs deep. The power of the water ran the early mills, the canal fostered commerce, and today we cherish the ever-changing beauty along the river.

But as we have learned time and again, the power of the water can bring flooding, and with it serious damage to your home. The Township and its Environmental Advisory Council work diligently to ensure that Solebury follows best practices for water management, to help reduce some of the threats of flooding. Yet there is little we can do to stave off the effects of climate change, and the recurrence of "century events" every few years.

This summer, state and federal emergency management officials are encouraging Pennsylvania residents to take a good look at the flood insurance plans offered by the National Flood Insurance Program.

Most home insurance policies do not cover the cost of rebuilding after a flood, and emergency grants and loans are made available only for certified disasters. Without flood insurance, out-of-pocket recovery costs can create financial hardship for any homeowner.
