Does the Township provide trash hauling?

No. Residents may choose any hauler operating in the Township.

Does the Township require residents and businesses to recycle?

Yes. The Township requires residents to recycle newspaper, glass (clear, amber & mixed), plastics, aluminum, tin, steel and cardboard. Businesses are required to recycle office paper, cardboard, steel and aluminum.

Where do I pickup my recycling bin(s)? Does the Township provide the containers?

The Township does not provide recycle bins. You would have to contact your trash hauler for the bins.

No. The Township asks property owners, where possible, to compost leaves on their property.

Is there a place in the Township for disposal of large items, such as furniture, old computers, appliances, etc.?

No. Contact the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Recycling hotline at 1-800-346-4242, the Bucks County Planning commission at (215) 345-3400, or your local trash hauler.

Solebury Township does not have public water and sewer throughout the Township. Public water and sewer are provided by the Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority.

Why do we have an earned income tax and what is it used for?

The Earned Income Tax is used for General Fund purposes. It was enacted in December, 2001, and developed to meet the growing needs of the Township and to rely less on Real Estate Taxes.

Solebury Township is responsible for maintaining Township-owned roads. PennDOT is responsible for maintaining state roads.

Why do I get two tax bills?

One is for the township and county taxes, and one is for school taxes. County taxes are on a calendar year and school taxes are on a fiscal year.

Does the Township have a leash ordinance?

The State Dog Law requires the following:

  • A dog must be on a leash when owner is off the property with the dog, or
  • Must be under voice commands and the dog must respond to commands, or
  • Dog must be confined to a property by means of a fence or an electronic fence, or must respond to voice commands.

NOTE: Fines can run up to $300 plus in court costs.

How would I get a speed limit sign erected on a state highway?

Write a letter and have it signed by everyone in the area. It must be sent to the Township for consideration and then forwarded to the Traffic Unit of PennDOT in King of Prussia, PA, requesting a traffic study to be done. PennDOT will make a determination of speed for the roadway and then advise the Township. If the determined speed is below 40 mph, the Township is responsible for cost of signs and maintenance. If the determined speed is above 40 mph, the State is responsible.

If I have a minor traffic accident, do I have to report it to the police?

Under the State regulations, accidents only have to be reported for the following reasons:

  • Vehicle cannot be driven from the scene, death or bodily injury to anyone involved.
  • If there is property damage to other auto or property.

NOTE: All insurance companies require some type of report for damage to an auto to confirm that damage happened the way it was reported.

Am I allowed to burn on my property? Is there a burning ordinance?

At this time, there is no burning ordinance. If you must burn, please keep it contained and have water nearby the burning area. State Law states that only natural vegetation can be burned.

What is meant by a snow emergency within Solebury Township?

When a snow emergency has been declared for Solebury Township and roads are extremely icy and rapidly becoming snow covered, any vehicle left parked or found disabled on Township roadways will be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense.

The snow ordinance is posted from November until the end of March of the following year.

What is a dedicated road?

A dedicated road is when ownership is taken over by the Township.

How does dedication occur?

The owner (usually a developer) must complete all outstanding punch list items in order to meet Township requirements. The owner will then petition the Township to accept the dedication. It must be accepted by the Township Solicitor, Township Engineer and finally the Board of Supervisors.

Dog License Applications are available at the Township administration office and then need to be mailed to the Bucks County Treasurer's Office in Doylestown, PA.

How are properties assessed?

Appraisal for new properties would include square footage, plumbing fixtures, fireplace(s) and number of rooms. The last assessment was done in 1972/1973 for home improvements.

How can I obtain a plot plan through the Township?

A Record Request Form can be filled out at the Township planning and zoning office to obtain a plot plan of a parcel. You will then be notified by the planning and zoning office that your request is complete within five business (5) days.

Emergencies having to do with trees blocking the roadway or involving downed wires should be done through contacting the Police Department or the Public Works Department

    What is the difference between a grading permit and a building permit? What is the normal process for submission? What happens once it is submitted?

    Grading permits are required when erosion control, sedimentation control and grading, and will take normally two to three weeks for processing through the Township Engineer's office. The building permit takes a week to ten days to be processed by the Zoning Officer and Building Inspector.
